It’s been a while since we’ve posted anything here, so this may be a longer post than usual. Our fundraiser for Moonsong Malamute Rescue was amazing and we thank all of our customers for making it such a great success. Our little Miss Sheila crossed the Rainbow Bridge in October, and we grieved over that for a long time. This holiday season was the first time we had spent a holiday without any dogs and, to be honest, we didn’t like it at all. I had a spotless house…but it was too empty and hollow. Since we had such a successful fundraiser with Moonsong, I kept checking their website just to look at the new rescues and after a while, I reached out to see if I could just apply and get preapproved, so if we found a match that we didn’t have to wait long. In the middle of applying and getting approved, we saw Nanuk and she looked so adorable. She had been rescued with her dad, Nacho, and looking to be placed. We met Nanuk and she stole our hearts, but ended up getting adopted by someone else who got approved before us…but we also met her dad, Nacho. He seemed sweet, old, not interested at first, and a little ‘eh’….but as we were all standing around and talking about dogs, he walked right up to me and stared me in the eyes as if to ask “Can we go home now?”. It was like looking into Kodiak’s eyes, that same gentle soul and I couldn't stop thinking about him. One of the volunteers had said that he had never done that with anyone. He usually avoided eye contact.
So, January 3, 2020, Nacho came home to spend his retirement years with us and we are thrilled! The Barkery now has a new Chief Taste Tester and he’s doing an amazing job, although we need to remind him about safety. I’ve almost tripped over him when he’s been laying right behind me while I bake. LOL! We will have to work on getting him certified in safety for the kitchen.
